{RARE Icicles in Our Garden}

For Central Georgia it is quite rare to see Icicles but today, January 29, we did have lots of them. Our trees were hanging down under the heavy weight. So please come with me on a tour to see the Icicles in Our Garden...
This photo is showing our iced gazebo roof through the icicles that hang from our Drake Elm - Ulmus parvifolia.
To the left you see the Rose Stepping Stones...
Two new Rose Stepping Stones in weathered bronze are still waiting to be placed.
The table and chairs in front of our Rose Suite, on the little patio, are covered with ice as well...
The fronds of our Palm Tree are full of ice too.
Icicles hanging down from our Golden Live Oak 'Quercus Virginiana Grand View Gold'
Our Fragrant Magnolia Grandiflora 'Namnetensis Flore Pleno' with iced leaves...
Icicles on our Castanopsis cuspidata--Japanese Chinquapin
Our Cedrus Deodara or Cedar Rose Tree with big frozen teardrops hanging down on it.
Buds of our Our Japanese Somei Yoshino Cherry with icicles hanging down...
Our Sky Pencils - Ilex crenata Japanese holly with ice on the red polished beach pebbles...
Closeup of the red polished beach pebbles on ice on top of an Eco Friendly Tree Ring from recycled rubber.
So much for the 2014 Ice Storm in the South...
Stay warm and safe wherever you are!

    1. Dearest Theresa,
So far today was not as bad as once before when one third of our live oak split because of the weight... It is tough for any tree or shrub as they bend down with such a load of ice.
      Hugs,

Your gazebo looks fabulous with all the ice in the plants and all, it's like a story book as is your entire property Mariette, I truly love it, just beautiful! Yes, I too hope for no breakage in the branches of any of your lovely tres. Thank you for visiting Cayetana, she is so happy with all her comments, she's so funny, she always puts a smile on my face this Little one!

Thank you it might look good but it sure does not feel that way. On top of this we're having ongoing Internet outage... No fun!
But we got some nice photos and hope the trees and shrubs will survive. All felines are inside and we stay cozy and warm as well. Spring will come one day...

  3. OH MY!! Dearest Mariette, I hope your trees will be alright. Mr. G. was just saying that Georgia was in the news and was wondering if you and Pieter were affected. We are are both sending you, Pieter and the furbabies warm thoughts that the temps will become warmer in your area. hugs, and blessings, C. (HHL)

Today the trees looked fine, they did bend down but not like years ago when our live oak lots one third of its body. But in a way this also is very pretty, so glad I went out to take those photos after Pieter shot some already.
Hope you are doing well yourself and stay warm!
Hugs and happy tea time; that's such a bliss for winter time...

Icy cold indeed but it looks also pretty in the daytime. You showed us snow right at the beginning of your sun room and deck addition. We have to be patient till mid March or so for better weather. But you got the worst part done and so did we; waiting for better weather so the tiles can be put on.

PS glad I did copy this comment as the internet connection again got broken... it's on and off here

  6. Hello Mariette, Ice-covered trees can be beautiful, but the weight and cold can damage sensitive plants. Ironically, the ice covering can also protect delicate buds from further freezing, so sometimes fruit trees are deliberately sprayed before a freeze.

Unfortunately, the same conditions can also produce icy roads, so be careful when driving!

    1. Dearest Jim,
Indeed, beautiful in a picture but the reality is a very heavy burden! Tonight, or even now in the evening, all the melting from today will refreeze again and cause some dangerous black ice. But from tomorrow on, no more frost so the danger will be lifted. Georgia has been quite a chaos, especially in the Atlanta area as they are not equiped for such weather.
Let's hope people will be safe.
We hope that our shrubs and trees will pull through without damage as well.
So glad we made our trip to Atlanta a week ago as it would not be safe now.
Happy New Year to you and stay well.

Thank you so much and yes, those photos look a lot better than the real feel of such cold icy days. The same as in The Netherlands, their winter has been a lot milder than ours.
We sure do stay cozy, the bed has been freshly made with another flannel duvet set... Feels so good to snuggle into.

Today I could have made sunny pictures with icicles but yesterday it was so gray and dreary looking! Never mind, I already posted this and didn't attempt to make new ones. Tonight the melted ice will refreeze and than it warms up, no more frost.
Oh, cozy kitties know how to hold a winter party. Ours did feast on some crab tonight since I prepared a meal with crab for both of us. A large tub from Costco and that was enough for two days plus six happy kitties.

Oh, those Rose Stepping Stones caught my eyes years back and I have been adding on to them. They make for great and clean walking over sandy areas that can get muddy when it rains. Under the huge trees the grass will not grow so there you have the nead for a clean walkway.
Yes, we just stay put and very cozy indoors.

Oh, this came as one of those big surprises as it is very rare for this region. A tough time for plants and trees as it goes so suddenly down to this cold weather. They are not naturally hardened off. Sure, for your region it is normal to have snow in the Alps and the environment can handle it very well.

  21. Good Morning Mariette, The photographs are so very beautiful, but I do hope this cold weather spell does not impact on any of your beautiful plants. It seems the weather is really behaving oddly this year, as in England, the South has been experiencing floods and here in the North we have had a lot of winds and rain with no snow, which is unusual.
I hope you are keeping yourself warm and cosy inside your beautiful home. Have a lovely, if cold, weekend.

Wow, in your great pictures icicles are really beautiful (kind of ironically) Do you think Somei Yashino will bloom? I needed to check 'Japanese Chinquapin' & 'Ilex crenata Japanese holly' with pc.(^^;) 樹氷(Jyu hyou) which literally means 'tree ice' and these combined 2 characters sound really beautiful in Japanese but not so sweet a word for trees, is it! And I DO hope your weather this year will be the FAIR one for you two from bottom of my heart☆☆☆

  26. Lieve Mariette,
